Summer Internships

High school internship applications are now OPEN! We will have 2 distinct internships available for motivated high school students this Summer! This opportunity allows for 6 interns to join us in the hangar and learn from experts in aviation. These aviation mentors have dedicated their lives to the field of aviation and are eager to pass their knowledge on to the next generation!

Internships will be held in-person at the Wings of Hope hangar at Spirit of St. Louis Airport! Masks will be required, unless vaccinated. The internship will consist of a total of 32 hours of theory and hands-on learning over 4 weeks. Interns will come to the hangar 2 days a week, for half day instruction.

Start date will be: July 19th
End date will be: August 13th

High school internships will be guided by mentors, many of whom are or have been pilots, airplane mechanics, engineers, and all of whom are lifelong aviators. Each mentor has submitted a background check and completed diversity training.

UPDATE: All internship positions have been filled at this time.

Becoming a Pilot

The ‘Becoming a Pilot’ internship is a combination of flight direction, steps to becoming a pilot, and navigation education. This internship is for students who are interested in theory and the technical side of aviation. There will be an advanced learning curriculum developed by our aviation mentors through their professional experience in the field. There will also be hands-on experiences in our operational airplane hangar. Students in this internship will explore the hangar, connect with their fellow interns, Wings of Hope staff, and their mentors. Interns will study and dedicate themselves to working hard to master the curriculum, and also have individualized hands-on experiences with our fleet of airplanes.

As an added bonus to launch our student’s passion for aviation, we have teamed up with Elite Aviation, located just across the runway from our hangar, and will be providing each intern with a discovery flight with a Certified Flight Instructor by their side! There are only three spots available, please don’t hesitate to apply!

Please apply if…

  • You are interested in the theories and practices that it takes to fly a plane.
  • You are motivated to work hard, ask questions, and soak up all of the knowledge our mentors have for you.
  • Want to have a unique experience working with our fleet of Wings of Hope planes while simultaneously learning about how to fly!

Mechanically Minded

The ‘Mechanically Minded’ internship is dedicated to hands-on learning. Students will be working in our fully operational hangar alongside our committed mentors. This internship is focused on students who are curious about airplane mechanics, avionics, and the specific electrical systems that make a plane fly. This internship will also include a guided curriculum developed by our knowledgeable mentors. Interns must be devoted to working hard to master the educational component to this program as well as the hands-on experiences.

As an added bonus to launch our student’s passion for aviation, we have teamed up with Elite Aviation, located just across the runway from our hangar, and will be providing each intern with a discovery flight with a Certified Flight Instructor by their side!

Please apply if…

  • You love to work with your hands.
  • You find yourself often taking machines apart and then back together “just to see how it works”.
  • You are curious about the aviation industry.
  • You want to have an incredible jumpstart into working with aviation mechanics, avionics and the systems that make airplanes fly!
Students MUST participate in an orientation meeting held via Zoom for interns and guardians.
