Join a Volunteer Community That’s Powered by Purpose

At Wings of Hope, volunteers are the heart of our mission. With a small paid staff and nearly 200 volunteers, we rely on the time, talents, and compassion of people like you to help us change and save lives through the power of aviation.

Whether it’s keeping our aircraft mission-ready, ensuring our facilities run smoothly, supporting patients, lending a hand at events, or helping behind the scenes—our volunteers make it all possible. Their skills and dedication enable us to provide access to life-saving medical care for those who need it most.

When you volunteer with Wings of Hope, you become part of a close-knit community united by service, compassion, and a shared sense of purpose. You’ll see the difference your work makes—and you’ll have fun doing it.

Join Wings of Hope. Make an impact. Be part of something bigger.

Volunteer Spotlight:

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of Wings of Hope. Whether they are in the hangar working on planes or in the front office managing administrative and financial tasks, we depend on them to do mission-critical work that keeps our wings in the air and our operations running smoothly.

Chief Medic Peggy Lee

Peggy Lee joined Wings of Hope in 2017 after a 43-year nursing career at Missouri Baptist Medical Center/BJC HealthCare. Her experience spans cardiac care, surgery, emergency medicine, home health, and more. Today, as Chief Medic, she brings comfort and compassion to patients during their medical flights.

“This is the best non-paying nursing job I’ve ever had,” Peggy says. “I love the patients—and the volunteers I work with are just amazing.”

Accounting Volunteer Kathie Haferkamp

Kathie Haferkamp has been volunteering in Wings of Hope’s accounting department since 2019, bringing her skills as a certified public accountant to support the mission behind the scenes. After retiring, she was looking for a meaningful way to give back—and found it here.

“I believe in the mission of the organization,” Kathie says. “And everyone here is very nice to work with.”

Medic Dr. Greg Kwasny

Dr. Greg Kwasny first joined Wings of Hope as a volunteer pilot after a 35-year career as an ophthalmologist in Milwaukee. Since retiring and moving to St. Louis, Greg has worn many hats at Wings of Hope—serving as a medic, supporting the Volunteer Fulfillment and Purchasing teams, and assisting with post-flight operations.

What he enjoys most about being a medic is connecting with patients in flight. “I can sit next to them and explain what’s happening—especially when it’s their first time flying,” Greg says. “It helps them feel more comfortable.”

From longtime patients he calls “frequent flyers” to new faces each week, Greg values the relationships he’s built. “The mission we’re doing really feels like we’re accomplishing something—at any age.”
